Week 11 · 3–4 hours
Commercial Thinking, GEO & Prioritisation
Distinguish something that can be optimised from something worth prioritising.
Use impact, confidence, effort and business value. AI metrics are evidence inputs—not automatic priorities.
Learn
Complete only the named pages or lessons below. Links inside them are optional unless the task says otherwise.
Optimising for Google’s AI features
Why this: Use current first-party guidance rather than a speculative GEO checklist.
Pay attention to: The continued role of technical accessibility, useful content and Search fundamentals.
Third-party SEO tools and advice
Why this: Build a method for assessing external claims and proprietary scores.
Pay attention to: Evidence, transparency, official guidance and avoiding guarantees.
Check your understanding
You should be able to explain these without relying on course terminology.
Practise
Apply this week’s learning through a guided practical exercise.
Scenario
Prioritise missing descriptions; one valuable noindexed category; old blog titles; a slightly slow homepage; an orphan product page; correct redirects; cannibalising commercial pages; a competitor repeatedly cited in AI answers; and one small-sample tool reporting low AI visibility.
Your task
Reuse the four-factor framework from Week 7 to order what you would investigate. Then identify one principle supported by Google’s first-party guidance and one vendor or industry claim that would need more evidence before you acted. Explain uncertainty rather than claiming one universal answer.
Good work should contain
- Evidence strength considered
- Business impact stated
- Investigation before prescription
- Small AI samples treated cautiously
Common mistakes
- Prioritising by issue count
- Treating every AI absence as urgent
- Promising rankings or citations
SEO & AI Search Prioritisation Exercise
Review and refine the exercise to a client-facing standard, then save the finished version as portfolio evidence.
